CarbonArmor in Indiana
Challenge
Kevin called Keystone Basement Systems because he had some cracks in his basement on walls that concerned him. He knew that this was not some do-it-yourself fix that he could handle and that he needed a professional. Keystone sent out one of their best field inspectors Brain to not only conduct an inspection but to also sit down with Kevin and go over his concerns and questions and find out what he thinks about the problem. This is all done to ensure that not only is the plan the right plan for this home, but also to ensure that the homeowner knows exactly what is going on with the basement and how it can be fixed. Brian then quickly got to work conducting his inspection. He performed several moisture tests as well as taking very accurate measurements along with other tasks involved in a thorough inspection as this. This plan needed to be very precise and also custom to this issue as it is very difficult to have a generic plan that was not made for this specific problem because it would not work. Every issue in waterproofing and structural repairing needs to be custom as every home and or business is structured differently and every problem is going to be unique to every building. The field inspector was very confident that this plan was going to be the plan to fix this home forever, ensuring that Kevin would live out his dream of this being his forever home. The plan was to point crack the cracks in the walls along with installing 6 CarbonArmor carbon fiber straps. The CarbonArmor® Wall Reinforcing System is a state-of-the-art solution for bowing and cracking foundation walls. Using the same technology the Army Corps of Engineers developed to reinforce bomb shelters, skyscrapers, and bridges, we use CarbonArmor® to stabilize your basement walls. The CarbonArmor® System includes flexible carbon fiber fabric straps that are up to 10 times stronger in tension than steel. Using high strength epoxy resin, the carbon fiber straps are bonded to the interior face of the wall. The straps will stabilize the wall. This system requires no exterior excavation, installs quickly, and won't impact future basement finishing. Field inspector Brian then completed his plan and returned back to Kevin to go over every detail of the plan and what was the expected final outcome. Kevin was more than excited to get this underway so the field inspector quickly returned to the office and got this project on the schedule for installation.
Solution
Upon the day of installation, the foreman and his crew showed up exactly on time and quickly yet politely introduced themselves. The foreman then stayed with Kevin to go over the day as the crew got to work unloading the truck and setting up for the day. The foreman went over everything with Kevin and even scheduled a time to meet with him in the midst of the day to go over everything that had been done and everything that still needed to be completed. The foreman and his crew then went to work pointing the cracks in the walls. They then moved on to installing the CrabonArmor straps and finished up by cleaning up the space in which they were working. The foreman then met with Kevin once again and went over the details of the job that had just been done. The foreman also provided Kevin with the phone number to Keystone's service department in case he had any further questions or just needed to schedule his annual inspection of the straps. The home was structurally sound again which put Kevin at ease so he was more than thrilled to leave Keystone a great review.
