Challenge

The foundation walls of this basement in New Wilmington, PA were cracked and bowing, which enabled water to seep through. The basement floor was wet, the walls had white chalky stains (efflorescence), the air smelled musty, and the walls bowed inward with large horizontal cracks. The soil pressure on the exterior side of the foundation wall, better known as hydrostatic pressure, was too great for the wall to support, causing the wall to bow and crack. The white chalky stains on the walls were due to moisture seeping through the walls, and the musty smell was from mold that was growing due to moisture. The homeowner was interested in waterproofing their basement and repairing their foundation wall to eliminate any water problems and ensure the safety of their living space. They decided to give us a call at Keystone Basement Systems and we transformed their basement into a healthy, clean, and safe space!

Solution

After a free, no obligation estimate, we were ready to transform this wet basement with unstable foundation walls into a safe space. We wanted to ensure this homeowner's home would stay healthy and safe permanently. This required installing our industry-leading waterproofing and foundation repair products.

First, we repaired the foundation walls with the CarbonArmor Wall Reinforcing System. This system is a state-of-the-art solution for bowing and cracked walls. Straps 10x stronger than steel were bonded to the foundation wall with high strength epoxy resin. To provide permanent stabilization and prevent further movement, the straps are anchored permanently to the floor joists.

Secondly, we installed our TripleSafe Sump Pump System. TripleSafe offers three levels of protection for the customers basement and their peace of mind. If there is a power outage, tripped circuit, or sump failure, the battery backup system will kick in to ensure that the pump works and the basement remains dry.

Finally, our WaterGuard Interior Perimeter Drainage System was installed. Water will be collected from basement walls, drained to the sump pump system, and then removed from the house.

Horizontal Cracks - If you have clay soils around your home, they can expand and contract significantly as they become wet. The CarbonArmor System includes flexible carbon fiber fabric straps that are up to 10 times stronger in tension than steel. Using high strength epoxy resin, the carbon fiber straps are bonded to the interior face of the wall. The straps will stabilize the wall. This system requires no exterior excavation, installs quickly, and won't impact future basement finishing.
