CleanSpace and Sedona Help Improve Air Quality in Sewickley PA
Challenge
The owners of this home did some research and found that their crawl space might have been the culprit. Not only was air quality a concern, but the floors above the crawl space were always cold, too.
Solution
Our crew visited the home and got right to work. Although the crawl space didn’t have any standing water, the dirt floor and cinderblock walls readily let moisture into the space, which was evident on the wet floor joists. Before placing the CleanSpace, extra insulation needed to be installed. SilverGlo insulation was installed on the walls—the graphite particles manufactured within them helping to reflect heat back into the space.
Once the crawl space was insulated, a CleanSpace liner was fixed to the walls and floor. This liner is incredibly durable and seals off the space keeping moisture and outside air from entering the crawl space. Antimicrobial additives in CleanSpace also prevent mold growth.
The final step to address the air quality concern was to place a Sedona dehumidifier in the crawl space. This dehumidifier is energy efficient, and works to rid the air of moisture. The moisture collected from the air drains to the sump pump automatically so it never has to be emptied manually. Keeping the air clean and dry in the crawl space ensures that the air moving up to the rest of the home is healthy.
Encapsulating this home’s crawl space and adding insulation will not only keep the crawl space dry, but the floors above much warmer. A new dehumidifier dries the air preventing moldy, damp air from moving upstairs, allowing all who live in the home to breath much easier.
