Bowing walls in Hickory
Challenge
John and Susan called Keystone Basement Systems due to the fact that they had a bowing wall in their basement and they didn't know what to do about it. Keystone knows that bowing walls are a common issue in buildings and homes that can lead to significant structural problems. A bowing wall occurs when the wall begins to curve or bulge inward or outward, and is typically due to pressure from the soil outside the foundation. This pressure can result from factors such as improper drainage, structural failure, and wet basements. Keystone sent out one of their best field inspectors to go over the issue with them and then to perform a very thorough inspection of the problem area. This inspection is to ensure that the plan that the field inspector comes up with will be the exact plan that is needed for this home to get structurally sound again. The plan was to install 4 CrabonArmor carbon fiber straps on the bowing wall. Repairing a bowing wall typically involves reinforcing the wall with materials such as steel beams or carbon fiber strips and addressing the underlying cause of the pressure on the foundation. It is important to address bowing walls as soon as possible to prevent further damage and ensure the structural integrity of the building. The plan also called for an internal drainage system which was also to have a clean-out added to it. The field inspector then met with John and Susan again to go over the plan and to make sure they got all their questions answered and that they fully understood the importance of this project.
Solution
Once the conversation about the plan was finalized the field inspector then returned to the office to schedule this for installation. Upon the day of installation, the foreman and his crew promptly showed up for their scheduled time and introduced themselves. The foreman then went over every detail of what was going to take place, as the crew was unloading the truck and preparing for the day. The crew and foreman then quickly got to work installing the internal drainage system as well as the CarbonArmor carbon fiber straps. The foreman made sure to check in with both John and Susan half way through the day to make sure they were on board with what was going on, and also to make sure if they had any concerns that they were followed up on. Once they entire system was installed the foreman met with the homeowners and went over everything as the crew made sure the basement was as clean as they found it and the truck was all packed up with their tools. The homeowners were both very thrilled with the final results and made sure to let the foreman how happy they were. They left Keystone a 5-star review and were more than happy to pass the Keystone name onto one of their friends that was having the same issuer.
